Champaign County Forest Preserve District
Mission Statement . . .We are stewards of our county's natural and historic resources through conservation, education and the compatible outdoor recreation experiences we provide at Champaign County's Forest Preserves. CCFPD is a local, property tax-supported government agency charged with the stewardship of five forest preserves covering 3,885 acres in Champaign County, Illinois; Homer Lake Preserve in Homer, Lake of the Woods Preserve in Mahomet, Middle Fork River Forest Preserve in Penfield, River Bend in Mahomet and Sangamon River Forest Preserve in Fisher. Facilities include the Museum of the Grand Prairie, the Homer Lake Interpretive Center (a nature center and cultural center), and many more. Volunteerism is an essential part of maintaining the facilities and programs at Champaign County's forest preserves! District volunteers develop meaningful relationships with the natural and cultural communities of the area, and aid in improving the quality of life for others in these communities. The diverse volunteer opportunities at the District will allow you to work outdoors, learn about natural area management, or share your passion with others. However you choose to volunteer, you will become a valuable part of preserving Champaign County's natural and cultural resources for generations to come. The CCFPD has volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups based on your availability and interests. Our staff can custom-fit a project for school, corporate, civic and scout groups, either one-time or ongoing.
