The Immigration Project
The Immigration Project provides access to quality legal services in Central and Southern Illinois where there are estimated to be 100,000 immigrants residing. Due to the complexity of immigration law, we have found that access to quality legal services is essential to keeping families united, building strong communities, and protecting victims of crime.
Our home office is in Normal, Illinois, and we have a satellite office in Champaign. To be able to serve the 85 counties located south of I-80 our attorneys also regularly 'circuit-ride' to Kankakee, Peoria, Springfield, and Carbondale. Our staff consists of three immigration lawyers, a full-time administrative staff, a part-time intake scheduler, and four AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers.
We are so thankful for volunteers and interns who help enable us to help more immigrants in our huge service area. These team members answer phones and greet walk-ins, fill out immigration forms, meet and interview applicants, and follow cases through to completion under the supervision of staff and attorneys. We like to have a balance of community members and students, of monolingual and bilingual team members, and are quite flexible with scheduling.
