Champaign Urbana Optimist Club
Optimist Clubs are dedicated to "Bringing Out the Best in youth, our community and ourselves" and do their part through community service programs. The Champaign-Urbana Optimist Club conducts positive service projects aimed at providing a helping hand to youth. Our club members are best known in their communities for their upbeat attitudes. By believing in young people and empowering them to be the best they can. We conduct two large service projects: Selling Christmas Trees at Country Fair Shopping Center and ticket sales at the Champaign County Fair. The money raised is given to local youth activites in the community. Some of the many programs we help or sponsor & Optimist Youth Activities: Jefferson Archery Club, Urbana Middle School Character Education/Student of the Month, Urbana High School Student Senate Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Respect for Law Awards, Wheelchair Sports, Illinois Truth Basketball, ACT-SO, Urbana Park District, Champaign Park District, Christmas Gifts for kids in need, Annual Fishing Derby & Jr. Golf Tournament, College Scholarships, Essay & Oratorical Contests, Poster Contest.
