Adult Volunteer Literacy Tutor Training (Introduction)

Description

Thank you for wanting to be a tutor with Project READ!  Project READ tutors provide free basic reading, basic math, and/or ESL tutoring to adults in our area in a public community setting (like the library) or in an Adult Ed Classroom at Parkland College or at the Urbana Adult Education Center.  We offer support and training for our tutors so that they are best prepared and supported in working with the learners on their goals.

If you have not already registered as a Project READ volunteer, please do so now at the following link : https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=TxMkewFgLkOm0Z_8SOVp-6bA7z9NZuZMkh5wQEAB2yVUMDZNSkdCTDU5RlZRWVNYWUUySkpOVFBJWC4u

Our training is a combination of face-to-face sessions, online articles and optional teacher observations.  All of our tutors complete at least 12 hours-worth of training in some convenient combination of these options (with a minimum of 2 hours of in-person training).

Please sign up below for one or more in-person training sessions.  PLEASE NOTE THE LOCATION of the training for the date you choose.  We offer tutor training at various locations around the Parkland College District.

If you would like to start the online training, you can do so on the Illinois State Library site.  You will just need to send us a screen shot of the last page of each section (unless it requests a short paragraph reflection, which you would also send to this email address) to receive credit for the online training.  You are NOT required to do all of the modules, but we do want you to complete modules 2, 3, 4 , 6, 7 and 10 (which together count as 6.5 hours). Please include the lesson number in the subject of your email.

Please like our Facebook page!  We post updates on training and tutor support here:  https://www.facebook.com/ProjectREADatParkland
