End-of-market packing up
The Champaign Farmers' Market brings fresh, local food to the heart of downtown Champaign and provides a midweek sales opportunity to local farmers. We also operate a SNAP matching program to help make fresher, more nutritious food available to our whole community.
The Market is run by a small, local non-profit, The Land Connection. We set up informational tents for community groups, kids' activities, a seating area for patrons, as well as our market Sampling Tent. We need extra hands to help pack up farmers' market tents, tables, signage, and other equipment and move it to nearby storage from 6:15-7:15pm on Tuesdays. The more volunteers, the faster it goes. The Market takes place in late afternoon and is shaded from about 4:30 on, so by the time we close up shop, the peak of the summer heat has usually passed.
We generally need volunteers who are able to lift 40 pounds, though we also have some lighter tasks available for those who require less exertion.
