About the Community & Campus Day of Service
The 2015 Day of Service was a great success! Over 1,500 volunteers packaged over 148,000 meals and repackaged over 55,000 servings of oatmeal for Eastern Illinois Foodbank. We were also honored to provide the Red Cross with 12,000 meals for the residents of Fairdale, Illinois, whose town was flattened by a tornado on Thursday night, April 9, 2015. Learn more on The Food Packaging Project page.
Last year's Day of Service was a great success! In the course of 4 1/2 hours, we packaged 147,162 meals, which were delivered to Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Additionally, hundreds of volunteers participated in dozens of other projects across Champaign-Urbana. This year, members of the local community and University of Illinois faculty, staff, and students will join forces once again to kick off National Volunteer Week 2015, which will take place from April 12-18. Our primary project, The Food Packaging Project, involves packaging 148,000 meals - one thousand for every year of public engagement since the University was chartered - for local foodbanks to be distributed to needy families in Champaign-Urbana.
Hundreds of volunteers are needed for the food packaging project as well as a number of other projects being planned to benefit the local community. Several volunteer shifts will be available during the day.
Or plan your own community service project and let us know about it!

April 11: 9:00AM - noon, 1:00PM - 4:00PM
April 12: 1:00PM - 4:00PM
The University of Illinois Arboretum is seeking 10-15 volunteers to help eliminate bush honeysuckle from the Pollinatarium near the University of Illinois Arboretum grounds. Please wear gloves and clothes that can get dirty. You will be dragging brush, so wear long sleeves and long pants to protect yourself from getting scratched. Please bring safety glasses if you have them. Ear protection will be provided, as there will be a wood chipper running.
Space is limited, so please do not just show up! Contact Diane Anderson to register for this volunteering opportunity.
4/16: Feeding our Kids
3:00PM - 5:00PM

We sort and pack bags of food for school children in Champaign/Urbana who are food insecure to take home over the weekend and eat. We would love to have help in packing these bags!
