Privacy Statement for CUVolunteer.org
Introduction
The Community Volunteer Center (CVC) and the Office of Volunteer Programs (OVP)
have worked together to create this document that demonstrates our commitment to
privacy. We receive information from our users from three main sources: Internet
addresses (IP addresses), browser cookies, and registration information and response
forms.
Internet Addresses (IP Addresses)
IP addresses are a series of digits used by computers to identify themselves to
other computers. We use IP addresses to:
- help diagnose problems with our server
- administer our Web site
- gather broad demographic information
IP addresses cannot be used to identify users, and we cannot track individual users
with IP addresses. See
ZDWebopedia
for more information about IP addresses.
Browser Cookies
Browser cookies are small temporary files we put on your hard drive. We use browser
cookies to:
- deliver content specific to your interests quickly
- help you access the CUVolunteer.org volunteer opportunities database
So that we can deliver content specific to your interests, we need you to accept
cookies on your web browser (the default for most browsers is to accept cookies).
For your online protection and privacy, these browser cookies:
- do not save any passwords or sensitive information
- are automatically deleted from your machine after your visit to CUVolunteer.org
is complete
This ensures that no other web sites can maliciously garner any information about
you from your CUVolunteer.org visit. Deciding not to store any permanent browser
cookies on your machine means we have to do a bit more work to deliver the content
you need, but we feel comfortable making this trade-off. See
The Unofficial Cookie FAQ for more information about browser cookies.
Registration Information and Response Forms
Our registration form requires users to give us contact information (like their
name and email address) and unique identifiers. We use this contact information
to:
- send information about our organization to the user
- contact the user, if necessary
At any time, users may contact us to remove or change information in our database.
Our online response forms may ask visitors for contact information (like their email
address) and/or demographic information (like their zip code or age). These response
forms are used to gauge our volunteers' experiences with volunteer opportunities
o r as a means to submit any other comments about CUVolunteer.org. The users' contact
information is used to contact the user only when necessary.
Security
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration
of the information under our control. The staff of OVP and CVC maintains data submitted
to this site, and no other organization or business has security access to this
database. Information in this database will not be provided to anyone outside of
OVP or CVC. It will also not be used as a "recruiting tool" by agencies to contact
you individually about volunteer opportunities without your consent. The OVP administrator
also has access to agency passwords. This is in case an organization forgets what the
password is. Screening questions will be required to make sure the agency inquiring is who they say they are.
We will never ask you for any sensitive unique identifiers such as your social security
number. We will also never ask you for any financial information such
as income, account numbers, and credit card information.
We currently do not anticipate sending out mass emails of any kind to our users.
If this occurs in the future, we will notify users before adding their names to
a list. Users will also be given clear instructions on how to remove themselves
off the lis t.
What We Don't Cover
